NASO 2024 is a premier tour of geopolitics and lawmaking in the United States, with an add-on debating camp component in Canada.

The focus of NASO is to show the aspiring parliamentarian in each one of us the world of debating and diplomacy in real-life terms.

US Capitol and Library of Congress

Be within the walls of America’s #ThisHouseBelieves

See the working building where the House of Representatives and Senate craft laws, with the highlights being the Capitol Rotunda and Turnbull Paintings

Enter the world’s largest library, belonging to America’s parliament, and browse the books and collections of the Thomas Jefferson Main Reading Room (subject to schedule availability)

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum

Enter the world’s largest aerospace museum, featuring 60,000 artifacts including Neil Armstrong’s Apollo 11 Command Module and the 1903 flyer built by the Wright Brothers, the world’s first airplane.

Watch a show at the Smithsonian Planetarium. Previous showings have included explorations through planets and moons in the solar system and ones about our scientific inferences of what lies beyond the currently observable universe.

Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island

Immigration: the force that made America the country it is today and continues to shape it into the future. This trip includes an up close and personal visit to the Statue of Liberty at Liberty Island – the symbol of hope to the world’s immigrants.

We complete NASO in the US with a visit to the National Immigration Museum at Ellis Island and see the historical beginnings of the immigrant country in the actual dormitories, baggage halls, and receiving room that new arrivals were greeted by as they entered the USA.

NASO Add-on - July 14-20, 2024:

6-Day Intensive Debating Camp

Either in Vancouver or Toronto: residential debating camp with US and Canada debating coaches
Intensive skills modules on British Parliamentary and WSDC styles: Matter, Manner, and Method
Global Issues briefings with critical writing and reflective writing components: Gaza, Ukraine, and the Western Pacific
BONUS: Introduction to Model United Nations and the Harvard and THIMUN styles

Canadian Sightseeing

Subject to final camp location: excursions to Vancouver Island or to Niagara Falls, see the natural splendor of the North American outdoors
Door-to-door shopping and lunch visits to Toronto or Vancouver Chinatown and Waterfront Scenic Areas
